James Howlette was born to Thomas Howlette and Martha Jordon in 31 BD. He spent his first ten years of life in luxary, as his parents were rich merchants. Then one evening his parents were brutally murdered when thieves attacked the three of them as they were returning home from an evening at the opera. The thieves left James for dead and escaped into the shadows. This incident left James with a deep hatred of thieves, one that would continue on for the next eight years.
Using his parents wealth, and their ship the Fantastik, Howlette travelled the world, training under the best fighters he could find. During this time period he also trained himself in theif skills such as lock picking, in an effort to learn as much as he could about those he was to hunt down.
On the eighth aniversary of his parents death he headed to the tavern his parent's killers were known to frequent. He had learned the identity of the killers from a couple of underworld contacts he had bribed. Upon entering the tavern he was attacked by the three thieves who had murdered his parents. he managed to take down two with his longbow but was forced to fight the leader of the gang in a melee battle. Howlette appeared to be losing this battle until he managed to wrestle the thug's katana from him and win the battle.
Five years later, James Howlette still wielded the katana when he visted the town of Poisson, to answer a call for help regarding vampires. It appeared that some unknown trauma had left him slightly unbalanced mentally, for he appeared perfectly willing to steal and murder innocent people if they annoyed him, but he would still fight to help people if he felt they deserved help.
